So it can be translated as “Peter Ryom’s catalog of the works of Antonio Vivaldi”. Verzeichnis is the German word for catalog. In addition to 50 or so operas, numerous concertos for larger orchestras, a number of sonatas and trio sonatas, many for one or two violins with basso continuo, Vivaldi also wrote a series of chamber concertos, compositions similar to the solo and multiple concertos, but scored for smaller groups of instruments.įrequently played on guitar, the lute concerto in D major, RV 93, is one of four such works featuring the solo lute written by Vivaldi in the 1730s.RV is the abbreviation of “Ryom-Verzeichnis”, the established inventory of Antonio Vivaldi’s music, devised by the Danish musicologist Peter Ryom (born in Copenhagen). ![]() He left Venice in 1741 in the apparent hope of finding new patrons in Vienna, but he died shortly after his arrival in the city.
